PVIP Malaysia vs MM2H Platinum — Official 2026 Comparison

Both PVIP (Premium Visa Program Malaysia) and MM2H Platinum offer up to 20 years of Malaysian residency — but they differ sharply on minimum stay requirements, property obligations, and who they're really built for. Here's a full comparison based on the official Immigration Malaysia (JIM) FAQ.

No Age Limit
PVIP is open to all age categories
No Minimum Stay
PVIP has no minimum stay requirement at all
No Mandatory Property
Property purchase is optional, not required
Up to 20 Years
Maximum residency under both programmes

According to Immigration Malaysia's official FAQ, PVIP Malaysia is a long-term residency visa that enables investors, entrepreneurs, and foreign talents to live, work, or study in Malaysia for up to 20 years. It's a genuinely different profile of programme from MM2H — built around income and net worth rather than property investment, and with no requirement to spend a minimum number of days in Malaysia each year.

02Documents & Dependents

  • Passport — biodata page, latest entry/exit endorsement, and current/previous pass issued by Immigration Malaysia. Passport must have at least 24 months validity remaining.
  • Certificate of Good Conduct (CGC) — in English, or translated into English and certified by the Malaysian Embassy/Consulate. Required for both applicant and dependents.
  • Resume (applicant and/or dependent spouse) — covering current employment, working experience, and company name.
  • Income statement — for monthly income: latest 3 months' pay slips, an employer confirmation letter, and 3 months of salary bank statements. For investment/business income: a yearly bank statement, yearly income tax filing, and a bank confirmation letter.

03Application Process

All applications must go through an appointed PVIP agency registered with Immigration Malaysia (JIM). Registered agencies submit participant applications through the official PVIP portal.
Yes — PVIP participant pass holders are explicitly allowed to be employed and to study in Malaysia.
Immigration Malaysia accepts a Certificate of Good Conduct issued by Wisma Putra (Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for applicants who have already stayed in Malaysia for 1 year or more, as an alternative to obtaining one from their home country.

04Visa Duration & Renewal

Approval is granted for 20 years through a 5+5+5+5 year method, subject to your passport remaining valid throughout — with a minimum passport validity of 24 months required.
An extension must be applied for 6 months before your active pass expires. Half the participation fee will be charged again, based on the current fee rates at that time.
Children of the principal applicant who exceed 25 years old must apply to become a PVIP participant themselves, by paying the remaining balance of the participation fee — or apply for another immigration facility if they wish to continue residing in Malaysia.
Yes — passport renewal, a change of principal applicant, or a change of nationality all require the participant and dependents to undergo and pass security screening again. All participants and dependents also require security bond/personal bond coverage and valid health insurance (Malaysian or global) throughout.

PVIP May Suit You If...

You have strong verifiable income or a very high net worth, want to work or actively run a business in Malaysia from day one, don't want a mandatory property purchase tied to your visa, and value having no minimum stay requirement at all.

MM2H Platinum May Suit You If...

You'd rather qualify through savings and a property investment than ongoing income proof, want your dependents included at no extra participation fee, and are comfortable with the 90-day annual stay commitment.
